The Atlas of Living Australia website acts as a portal to a database for exploring the natural world, both flora and fauna, of Australia. It also has a vast set of research documentation and images. For the general public looking for information about a specific plant or animal, it allows searches using scientific and common name. Entries provide distribution information, classification hierarchy, and foremost images which help to identify a species in the wild. Contributions to the database is open to the general public to make field observations by taking photos then uploading them to iNaturalist.

The Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) is a collaborative, digital, open infrastructure that pulls together Australian biodiversity data from multiple sources, making it accessible and reusable. (ALA, About us)

The ALA is made possible by contributions from its partners, is supported by NCRIS, is hosted by CSIRO, and is the Australian node of GBIF. (ALA, Governance)
